The purpose of this blog is a personal one. Some time ago I found it helpful to sort through the jottings I had made on scraps of paper, my journal, and notebooks, and highlight the significant ideas that I want to remember. I am not so concerned about documenting or remembering everything as I am applying the truths and principles I learn in my life. After frustration in my inability to remember all these "important notes", I finally found something to help me that felt comfortable. Each week I wrote a letter to my wife, Jessi. In that letter, I simply shared with her those things I had learned that week. Several things resulted. First, I actually read through my notes, which previously had only sat on my shelf, or been buried deeper in the notebook as other more current notes were added. Second, as I wrote I held myself accountable for applying what I had learned that week. How have I changed? If I hadn't, the letter gave me a chance to consider how I would make that principle part of me. Third, because I had internalized the principles, I was able to leave the paper behind and go forward with more of what I learned written on my heart. My anxiety and guilt for never doing anything with these precious principles disseminated. Fourth, my relationship with my wife deepened and became more sacred as I shared with her regularly the thoughts and feelings that I was having every week. After a while, I lazily stopped writing these letters. This blog is an attempt to return to that habit. Each week I will post this letter. My hopes is that my wife will read it, but also I hope it may offer some wisdom to any others who may chance upon it. While letters too personal will only be given to my wife, others will be posted on this page weekly, or as often as I am able.
Sincerely,
Braden Duncan
